Abstract
Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant compound with low water-solubility and bioavailability, no identified molecular targets, and pan essay interference which limits its clinical application. CNB-001, J-147 and T-006 are very potent synthetic curcumin derivatives with better characterized molecular targets, but also with low water-solubility. They dissolve in DMSO, which is toxic for humans. Nevertheless, they are trialed for neurodegeneration and stroke treatment. We aim to develop novel nanocarrier CNB-001, J-147 and T-006 formulations, thus overcoming DMSO-toxicity and water-solubility issues, re-formulating the derivatives for human intranasal use and testing their effect in neonatal hypoxia-ischaemia and adult facial axotomy models.
