Abstract

Despite great advances in our understanding of biology from a genomic-centric approach, we do not fully comprehend why similar gene function alterations lead to a wide-range of biological manifestations. Physiological outputs arise from the complex interactions between the genetic make-up of the host and the environment, (e.g. nutrition, microbiome) (1). Chemical elements originating from these exogenous sources are the cornerstone of life on earth as they offer not only a source of energy but also the building blocks for cellular construction. Here, we will focus on understanding the importance of such regulatory interactions in the context of ageing (2).
