Abstract

An increasing body of evidence indicates that mRNA transcripts may function independently of their capability to produce a protein. We found that in sympathetic neurons, the axonal transcript Tp53Inp2 is not translated and acts as a long non-coding RNA. We found that Tp53Inp2 mRNA interacts with the nerve growth factor receptor TrkA, enhancing signalling. The goal of the project is to perform an iCLIP screen to identify transcripts that interact with TrkA receptor and may be involved in signalling from the axons to the nucleus. Functional assays will be used to study the physiological significance of candidate RNAs.
