Abstract

Lipid mediators such as prostanoids and related fatty acid products have well-established roles in inflammation and its resolution. We recently described that CYP450-derived fatty acids including epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) are also anti-inflammatory and pro-resolution. Most these endogenous lipids are difficult to study and use as they are produced de novo and are extremely short lived in vivo. Here we will use liposome encapsulation formulations as a novel means of overcoming these limitations and prolonging the activity of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators, so that we can better understand the biological action of individual EETs and potentially develop new therapies for inflammatory diseases.
