Unraveling the viral uracil-DNA glycosylase lytic replicative phase interaction hub in beta- and gamma- herpesviruses

Abstract

Human herpesviruses are important viruses that have the ability to express a large number of viral gene products. These viruses are divided into three sub-families (alpha, beta, gamma) that have subtly modified forms of the uracil-DNA glycosylase (UNG) encoded by their genomes. Recent findings from the Savva lab show gamma-herpesvirus encoded UNG as a potential trigger for assembly of the viral lytic phase replication complex. The aim of this project is to investigate the proteins interacting with UNG during their lytic replicative phase in both gamma and beta herpesviruses. We plan to achieve this by an integrative approach, combining computational predictions with structural studies.
